I may not always be in London, but London is always in me!
In this post I am going to reveal my true feelings about my London, but first I am going to let you know what I am up to right now, and the next few days. At the moment, I am in my flat listening to BBC Radio 1 which I must admit is severely addictive; once I have tuned in, it is nearly impossible to disconnect. Ha. I guess the combination of contemporary music, lovely British hosts and up-to-date news is what makes it hard to leave. Besides, it is the ideal mate when you are alone.
I am a person who knows exactly how to enjoy my own company. I had to learn it, the hard way. Today, I frequently choose being in my flat all by myself because it takes a lot of energy to make appearances. I easily get distressed by the expectations of others. However, those are surely just my own nowadays, yet as a result of others’ back in the days… I feel that I have so much to prove, so much to live up to and so much to be, that I may not have within me. Presumably one of the reasons that I find it easier to spend time with my elders – they are not as superficial. Anyway, I do not mind being solo. It is quite another thing to be/feel lonely – which is not really my case.
This weekend I have a dear friend flying in from Canary Wharf/London! I will see her on Sunday and I cannot wait. The last time I saw her was in September last year. I am sure she will bring a little bit of spring to our country. She is a ray of sunshine!
Ever since 2010 I have been visiting London and my friends there regularly. It has been a retreat, an escape from reality in a way and thus I associate London with sheer bliss. I always feel welcome and my worries are, without exception, left in Sweden; they certainly do not fit in my suitcase as I am travelling light, which is crucial when you are into London shopping!
I have my parents and siblings in southern Sweden. The rest of my relatives live in Stockholm. My friends are all over the world. In London, I left my heart. It was love at first sight. The diverse and friendly people, splendid architecture and a delightful overall atmosphere. Whenever I am not in London, I try to manipulate my senses in order to feel as much London as possible, simply, to feel good. BBC Radio 1 is obviously one of the tricks. Molton Brown Dewy Lily of the Valley and Star Anise Body Lotion is another; a scent that I purchased in London and used there for the first time. Accordingly, I think it smells London. Movies, tea, Thomas Sabo Charms – you name it. I even take every opportunity to speak English. I may have been born and raised in Stockholm but just as you can be born in the wrong body, I was born in the wrong city!
I have got a story for you! A year ago I went to buy this excellent Beoplay A2 speaker from Bang & Olufsen. It was rather pricey but I had saved up. Anyway, when I went to the store to get it, I could not find the tills. I did not buy it at B&O. I walked around in circles with the relatively big box under my arm and I got quite annoyed. At last, I found my way out. As I was about to pay, the cashier suggested that I should enter a competition before I left, and I thought, why not? So, I did. All I had to do was to answer a simple question and, in a few words describe what I liked about the company the most. Since I was still pretty irritated after running around, I wrote something like: “The best thing about you, is that you get your daily exercise here because it is such a big shop with a great range of products.” I won. I won my purchase! So, I did not have to pay for this portable Bluetooth speaker from B&O at all. Not a penny. Quite comical, huh? I guess I deserved it after that workout. Ha. Frankly, I was very happy when they phoned me the day after to tell me I was the winner. No hard feelings, no more!
Yet another runway look that I fell in love with! I even liked the description of the skirt: “The Spring-Summer 2017 is a journey towards an imaginary Italian Tropic, where the icons traditionally associated with Italy, like bread, pasta and good luck charms are merged with a holiday atmosphere, punctuated by cocktails, ice cream and sequins.” That is D&G for you!
Oh my, oh my, oh my! These over-the-knee boots are everything! They look so well-made and the embroidery is gorgeous! I have been looking for a pair of o-t-k boots for a long time now and I refuse to buy cheap ones – fit and quality is vital. If I had the money I would not hesitate a second to buy these boots. Christian Louboutin, I do not even know what to write. Wow. Just wow.
“I want to dance around in your flat in a satin kimono, make fluffy American pancakes and kiss you umpteen times a day!”
It is Thursday and it is laundry day! I do not mind doing laundry at all; I like my clothes clean and fresh, neatly folded in the drawers, i.e. not thrown on the floor. I am almost done by now, I just started the last machine a few minutes ago. Currently, I am in my flat waiting for the water on the stove to boil so that I can make some tea. Yum! Later on, I am going to hoover and make my place great again. Ha. I look forward to make myself decent, too. I always want to shower after washing my clothes, it is always dusty and warm down there… TEA DONE! I should probably listen to BBC Radio 1 as well to feel like a proper Briton. Have a good one!
My Danish neighbours really do know design: architecture, interior design, fashion design… They never disappoint. Here is a newly discovered brand that I found on Instagram today – ARKK Copenhagen. The clean and simple sneaker design with its unique details very much appeal to me. Well done you, Danes! I am proud to have a Danish surname and I will definitely put this post in the Larsen Loves category!
I want all of these splendid pieces of jewellery from Lily & Rose, especially some of the earrings or the bracelets. Oh, and my birthday is just around the corner!
That is why it is called the present. Ha! I woke up this morning with such a nice feeling. I have been working a lot lately, and sleeping a lot less. Today, I got to sleep in and it was wonderful. I had the best night’s sleep in a very long time and I think I know why: I left my window slightly open for the first time in a freezing month or two. Wow. I love to sleep with the window open just a bit because of the cool fresh air and the soothing urban soundscape of the city. Marvellous! However, this city (Malmö) is certainly not comparable with my London. No red double-deckers, no Britons and thus – no British. I have to use Spotify for this when in Sweden. While normal people would like play relaxing sounds of nature, such as morning birds or dripping rain, when they go to bed – I prefer The Underground and the Buses, A Pub in Shoreditch and The Changing of the Guard, Whitehall… Yes, I found an album named The Sounds of London. Nevertheless, we do have blackbirds in Sweden and I think their accent is just fine.
